Whistler Overnighter
This ride can be done in one day, but if you want, you can turn it into a camping trip, just like we did. Since you will be driving to the campground and leaving all your camping gear there, you can even go above and beyond, bring heavier gear or even a grill or gas firepit! :)
We hit the trail on Saturday morning, starting with a section to Function Junction, where we stopped for coffee and lunch. The first few kilometers had some spicier sections with loose gravel and exposed rocks, nothing to be too worried about, though, and definitely not as gnarly as the section between Squamish and the highway on our last trip.
Riding through Whistler on Valley Trail is very flowy, with rolling hills and beautiful views along the way. You will ride along the lakes and through the village before entering the Lost Lake area, where gravel starts again. The Lost Lake trails we rode are classified as green mountain bike trails, but we didn’t have to walk a bike once, and they were perfectly rideable on gravel bikes. I love this area and find it so special, beautiful with the smell of coniferous trees in the air, and even though we were here on a sunny Saturday, the trails weren’t too busy with mountain bikers.

After Lost Lake, we continued on the Sea to Sky trail to Green Lake Lookout, with a few pushes through steeper sections. After a snack break at the lookout, admiring the lake from above and watching the seaplanes taking off, we ventured back to Whistler following almost the same route on the way back. We stopped at a little beach by Nita Lake and went for a quick dip to cool down. We also couldn’t resist a break at the brewery at Coast Mountain Brewing, where we refreshed ourselves with snacks and drinks. Our last stop before getting to the camp was a little detour to Train Wreck - a popular tourist attraction accessible by bike! Once we arrived at the camp, we had dinner by the fire and talked about our fun adventure.

Note: Cal Cheak rec site is a very popular summer spot for camping, and it gets busy Fridays-Sundays or on long weekends. If possible, I recommend arriving early on Friday if you want to get a spot.
There is no running water at the site; you can either bring enough water from home or filter from the nearby river.
The site is $18 for 6 adults and one car; every extra car is another $18.
